November 23, 2009 - St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System is pleased to welcome Her Excellency Dr. Rawya Saud Al Busaidi, Minister of Higher Education from the Sultante of Oman, along with a very distinguished Omani delegation to St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital (SLEH) and the Texas Heart® Institute (THI).
The purpose of the visit, which is November 23-25, is for the delegation to experience first-hand St. Luke’s and THI’s enterprise, and explore collaborative opportunities and potential partnerships for healthcare services between our organizations and Oman.
The relationship between St. Luke’s, THI and the Sultante of Oman spans more than 30 years, which began with medical treatment of Omani citizens, ministers and royal family members by Denton A. Cooley, MD. For generations, Omanis have and continue to seek care at SLEH and THI. In 2007, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Sa’id of Oman made a $3 million contribution to St. Luke’s, which was used to create the Sultan of Oman Chair in Cardiology and Electrophysiology, currently held by Ali Massumi, MD.
In addition to scheduled tours, visits and meetings, a special St. Luke’s Omani Collaborative Initiatives Committee has been formed with the objective of further strengthening and formalizing relations with Oman.
