St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital Expands To Meet The Community’s Healthcare Needs
To meet the healthcare needs of a growing community, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital (SLWH) recently opened its West Tower’s fourth floor. The new patient care area adds 30 single-room beds to the existing 154 patient rooms—bringing the total to 184 rooms—an increase in capacity of nearly 20 percent.
The new medical/surgical floor is wired with full telemetry capabilities to allow hospital staff to electronically monitor patients. SLWH will continue construction of the West Tower’s fifth and sixth floors by 2014 which will add capacity for an additional 60 patient rooms.
Since St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital opened in 2003, the medical campus has grown from 42 acres to 62 acres, doubled the number of patient rooms, and tripled the number of physicians on staff to nearly 700. The hospital, which opened with 248 employees, has more than quadrupled its staff to 1,058 and has increased the number of operating rooms from four to eight.
St. Luke’s The Woodlands recently added a second parking garage in the center of the campus with 780 parking spaces, which in addition to the campus’ first garage built last summer with 400 spaces, brings the total parking capacity to 1,180.
Updating the campus’ overall appearance also is in progress with the expansion of the main entrance to improve visibility and traffic flow while better serving patients and visitors.
This fall, the new Medical Arts Center III (MAC III) building will open for new physicians on the SLWH campus to offer more healthcare services. This four-story, 100,000-square-foot medical office building is LEED-certified— a state-of-the-art “green” building—that is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
“We are strategically responding to the rapid population growth in Montgomery County and North Harris County by increasing our patient care capacity and offering a higher level of medical services through our Cardiovascular Center, Neuroscience Center, and oncology care in concert with MD Anderson,” said Debra F.
