St. Luke's The Woodlands Sleep Center Receives Program Accreditation by AASM

St. Luke's The Woodlands Sleep Center recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

St. Luke's The Woodlands Sleep Center offers the largest network of accredited sleep beds in Houston. The medical team is comprised of physicians from various specialties including pulmonary medicine, cardiology and otolaryngology. The Center’s specialists include private practice physicians, pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine consultants and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic physicians, to create a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team dedicated to treating sleep disorders.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates St. Luke's The Woodlands Sleep Center on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Nancy Collop, AASM president. “The Center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

“Attaining the accreditation from the AASM without any deficiencies shows that we strive to deliver the highest quality care with the most compassion for our patients,” said St. Luke's The Woodlands Sleep Center medical director and pulmonologist Ather J. Siddiqi, MD, MRCPI, FCCP, D.ABSM.

Peg Reiter, RN, PhD, vice president and chief nursing officer, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital, added, “Meeting the stringent criteria set by the AASM and achieving this accreditation demonstrates our commitment to excellence in providing the highest standard of care that our patients and physicians can trust.”

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other healthcare providers in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and labs, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine health care, education and research.  The American Academy of Sleep Medicine currently accredits more than 2,200 sleep medicine centers and laboratories across the country.
